After several months of tests by Torrevieja’s police, a new mobile radar for determining the speed of motion of vehicles started working on the streets of the city. The device called Velolaser, purchased by the municipal authorities for almost 18 thousand euros, is designed to control car drivers and motorcyclists who do not respect speed limits.

The mobile radar, which will record speeding violations through photos, differs from other models by its compactness, ease of transportation, installation and configuration, as well as ease of use. More than 20 police officers are trained to use it in recent months.

This week, Velolaser will operate on Desiderio Rodríguez, Gregorio Marañón, Cortes Valencianas, La Mancha, Baleares and Torrealmendros avenues. That’s where the majority of violations of traffic laws and exceeding the noise background, which resulted in ongoing disgruntlement among inhabitants of buildings nearby.
