This is the second-largest decrease of all the Autonomous Communities in absolute terms, ahead of Catalonia (-6,390) and the Community of Madrid (-5,471). Andalusia, with 16,925 fewer unemployed in March, leads the decline in unemployment.

In relative terms, the fall in registered unemployment in the Valencian Community was 1.95%. The fall is slightly higher than that recorded in the country as a whole, where unemployment fell by 1.48%.

There were 45,434 more unemployed in the Valencian Community, 11.31% more than in March 2020, a rise equal to the national average increase of 11.31%. Thus, the Valencian Community has 447,261 unemployed in the third month of the year, as recently reported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.

In Spain as a whole, the number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services (formerly Inem) fell by 59,149 unemployed in March (-1.5%), its largest decline in this month since 2015, when it fell by 60,214 people, according to data recently published by the Ministry of Labour, which has also highlighted that this is the third-best figure in the historical series for the month of March.

Ministry of Labour has attributed this cut in unemployment to the reduced restrictions on economic activity due to the overcoming of the third wave of the pandemic. In March 2020, just as the coronavirus was making its appearance in the world, unemployment rose by 302,365 people, five times more than in March this year.

With this fall in unemployment, which puts an end to five consecutive months of increases, the total number of unemployed reached 3,949,640 at the end of the third month of the year, bringing it back below the 4 million mark after February, when it was exceeded for the first time since April 2016.

As in previous months, the March unemployment figure does not include workers who are on lay-off or reduced hours as a result of a temporary lay-off (ERTE), as the definition of registered unemployment does not count them as unemployed.
In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment fell in March by 31,277 people, while over the last year, unemployment accumulated an increase of 401,328 people, which represents an increase of 11.3%.
