The decision was made by the Directorate for European Funds Management at Spain\u2019s Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>Torrevieja is among three municipalities in the Valencian Community (along with Valencia and Castell\u00f3n de la Plana) to receive the maximum allocation. Of the 42 municipalities in the region, only 15 obtained support.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"projects\">Main investment directions<\/h2>\n<p>The funds are allocated for implementing the <strong>Integrated Action Plan (PAI)<\/strong>, whose goal is the <strong>regeneration of the southern part of the city centre<\/strong>, specifically in the Acequi\u00f3n and San Roque districts. The plan includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reconstruction of the Eras de la Sal area<\/strong> \u2014 modernising the Sea and Salt Museum, creating a new <em>Salt Promenade<\/em>, and introducing technologies to boost ecological appeal and tourism.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revitalisation of the San Roque centre<\/strong> \u2014 transforming it into a modern sociocultural space to strengthen community life and associations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Renaturalisation of school yards at CEIP Acequi\u00f3n and Inmaculada<\/strong> \u2014 landscaping and community engagement in the renewal process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"mobility\">Green corridors &amp; urban landscaping<\/h2>\n<p>All project sites will be linked by a new <strong>green corridor and bicycle paths<\/strong>, stretching from the CV-95 road to the Do\u00f1a Sinforosa Park and the Eras de la Sal area. This approach aims to connect cultural and educational centres with recreational zones, creating a pleasant and safe space for residents and visitors.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"management\">Project governance<\/h2>\n<p>The coordination is led by the <strong>European Funds Department<\/strong> of Torrevieja\u2019s City Hall, together with municipal departments of urban development, tourism, education, culture, innovation, ecology, and social policy. This body was established in June 2024 to attract and manage European funds, and is now responsible for executing the Integrated Action Plan.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"impact\">Impact for the city<\/h2>\n<p>The FEDER 2021\u20132027 programme is focused on creating sustainable, ecological, and digital cities. For Torrevieja, this grant represents the biggest investment in its urban landscape in recent years.
