De eerste fase van de versoepeling van de lockdown in Spanje<\/a> heeft een positief effect gehad op de toeristische sector in Benidorm<\/a> , waarvan de economie bijna volledig afhankelijk is van buitenlands en binnenlands toerisme. Gegevens van de afgelopen week van Mirai, een bedrijf dat gespecialiseerd is in online hotelboekingen in de stad, laten een heropleving van de sector zien. Hoewel juni, waarin reizen tussen Spaanse autonome regio's nog steeds verboden is, als een "verloren" maand wordt beschouwd en er aanzienlijke onzekerheid heerst over juli, geeft augustus al enig optimisme. Volgens vertegenwoordigers van Mirai werden de meeste boekingen gedaan door Spaanse inwoners. De situatie kan echter zelfs in juni ten goede veranderen als reizen tussen provincies binnen dezelfde autonome regio eind deze maand weer is toegestaan. In dat geval lijkt het zeer waarschijnlijk dat gasten uit Valencia, die voorheen vaak hun vakantie en weekenden in Benidorm doorbrachten, zullen arriveren.
