De Volkspartij (PP), die zich verzet tegen de Spaanse regering en vertegenwoordigd wordt door haar leider Pablo Casado, heeft opnieuw een initiatief gepresenteerd om huiseigenaren in Spanje te beschermen tegen "okupas"<\/a> \u2013 woningindringers. Als onderdeel van de nieuwe verkiezingscampagne dringt Casado aan op de aanname van een wet die bewoners binnen maximaal 48 uur na hun illegale intrek in leegstaande huizen en appartementen kan uitzetten. Een soortgelijke oplossing voor het probleem, dat is verergerd na de sluiting van de grenzen en de invoering van quarantaine in Spanje, werd al in november vorig jaar door de "popularisten" voorgesteld. Zij stelden onder andere voor om gevangenisstraffen van \u00e9\u00e9n tot drie jaar in te voeren. De huidige wetgeving beperkt zich echter alleen tot boetes voor personen die een dergelijk misdrijf hebben gepleegd, en in de praktijk kunnen zij alleen worden uitgezet door een rechterlijke uitspraak. In dat geval duurt het proces meestal enkele maanden, vooral in gevallen waarin de eigenaren buitenlandse staatsburgers zijn die niet permanent in Spanje wonen. De Volkspartij is ook tegen het toestaan dat okupas, die veelal gemarginaliseerd en werkloos zijn en geen belasting betalen, zich registreren in de bewoonde woningen en zo een minimumbasisinkomen (Ingreso M\u00ednimo Vital) ontvangen, zoals voorgesteld door de vicepresident van de coalitieregering, Pablo Iglesias.
