De stad staat niet alleen bekend om het milde klimaat en de gezonde mediterrane keuken, maar ook om de vele <a href=\"https:\/\/alegria-realestate.com\/ru\/articles\/city-of-spain\/sightseeing-in-alicante-spain\">bezienswaardigheden<\/a> . Vandaag bespreken we misschien wel het belangrijkste symbool: het majestueuze fort van Santa Barbara \u2013 Castillo de Santa B\u00e1rbara. Het fort van Santa Barbara is een van de oudste en best bewaarde bouwwerken in de hoofdstad van de Costa Blanca, Alicante. Het kasteel kreeg zijn naam &#8211; Santa Barbara &#8211; ter ere van de lokale religieuze feestdag, de dag van Sint-Barbara, toen op die dag, 4 december 1248, Infante Alfonso van Castili\u00eb, de latere beroemde koning Alfonso X de Wijze (Alfonso X el Sabio), het kasteel wist te heroveren op de Arabieren. In 1296 werd Jaime II de eigenaar van het hele fort en de kroon van Aragon, die opdracht gaf tot een grootschalige reconstructie van het bouwwerk. Bijna een eeuw later gaf de volgende heerser, Pedro IV el Ceremonioso, opdracht de vestingwerken rond het fort te versterken, en aan het begin van de 16e eeuw vaardigde koning Karel I op zijn beurt een decreet uit om alle gebouwen op het grondgebied van het fort van Santa Barbara te versterken. Tot halverwege de 16e eeuw, tijdens de regeerperiode van Filips II, werden er geen verdere grote verbouwingen aan het kasteel uitgevoerd. Dergelijke werkzaamheden werden pas hervat in de periode 1562-1580 en werden uitgevoerd volgens de plannen van de Italiaanse architecten Juan Bautista Antonelli en Jorge Palearo El Fratin, waardoor het fort harmonieuze en functionele kenmerken kreeg die de oorlogszuchtige uitstraling complementeerden. Helaas werd Santa Barbara aan het einde van de 17e eeuw, in 1691, zwaar beschadigd door het Franse zeebombardement. Tijdens de Spaanse Successieoorlog tussen de Bourbon-dynastie (Frankrijk) en de Habsburgse dynastie (Oostenrijk) in 1706-1709 stond het fort drie jaar lang onder controle van de Britten, bondgenoten van Frankrijk. In 1873 werd het fort, samen met Alicante zelf, beschoten door het gepantserde schip &quot;Numancia&quot;, dat rebellen uit het Spaanse Cartagena vervoerde. Daarna verloor het fort geleidelijk aan zijn betekenis en werd het slechts af en toe een gevangenis voor externe vijanden of tegenstanders van het Spaanse regime. Sinds 1929 was Santa Barbara eigendom van de stad Alicante en vond het meer dan dertig jaar lang geen geschikte bestemming. In 1963 werd het kasteel-fort opengesteld voor het publiek en trok het onmiddellijk de aandacht van toeristen. In hetzelfde jaar werden, voor het gemak van het bezoek, twee liften in de berg geplaatst over een lengte van 143 meter.
