Here is what residents and visitors of Torrevieja and nearby towns in Alicante province can enjoy at the end of this week.
20 August. Comedy play Behind the Scenes
The El Faro experimental theatre, located in Torrevieja at Calle Antonio Ruiz Coves, 6, invites the audience to the comedy play Behind the Scenes.
It tells the story of what happens on the other side of the stage: actors’ everyday lives, directors’ concerns and rehearsal dramas as they really are. Natural dialogue, vivid characters and an unembellished look at theatre life make the performance engaging and dynamic.
Start time: 20:30. Tickets: 20, 25 and 50 euros. Tickets can be booked at teatroelfaro.es.
20–23 August. Virtual tour Egipto. Un crucero por el Nilo
After the success of Luna and Titanic – projects that have already sold hundreds of thousands of tickets in cities such as Madrid, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Dubai, Rome and Paris – it is time for a new major adventure in virtual reality.
A journey through Ancient Egypt, with impressive scenery and surprising challenges, is available until 14 October at Virtual Zone Alicante, Plaza de los Luceros, 17, Floor 1.
First session: 9:00. Last session: 22:00. Tickets: 26 euros. Places for each session are limited.
20–23 August. Cirque du Soleil tour
Until 23 August, Cirque du Soleil is performing in Alicante, on San Juan Beach, with the show KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities.
This inspiring production tells the story of the Seeker – an inventor and owner of a cabinet of curiosities who is convinced that a hidden, invisible world exists beyond our own. In his improvised realm, inhabited by characters from another world, the collection comes to life and makes everything around him extraordinary.
The show reveals Cirque du Soleil’s signature style in a new way, combining spectacular acrobatics with poetry, art and humour. The show premiered in Montreal in 2014. Since then, KURIOS has captivated more than 6 million spectators in over 40 cities worldwide, with more than 3000 performances by a troupe of 50 artists.
Start time: 18:00 and 21:30. Tickets: from 62 euros.
20–23 August. Trip to Tabarca Island
Every day, visitors can take a boat from the ports of Torrevieja, Santa Pola or Alicante to Tabarca Island – the largest and only inhabited island in the Valencian Community.
Travellers can enjoy underwater views, discover rich marine biodiversity, try local restaurants and visit historic monuments.
The boat has capacity for 250 passengers, including people with reduced mobility and pets. Passengers may bring food and drinks on board.
Departures: from 9:30 to 18:45. Returns: from 10:30 to 19:30. Tickets from Torrevieja: 27 euros for adults and 19 euros for children.
21 August. Friday market in Torrevieja
Every Friday, Parque Antonio Soria hosts Torrevieja’s street market – one of the largest small-business hubs in the Vega Baja area.
Across an area of 82,000 m², there are up to 700 stalls selling food, clothing, shoes, accessories and other goods at prices that are often lower than in large supermarket chains.
The Torrevieja market offers many facilities, including free parking, public toilets and a taxi rank. Every 20 minutes from 8:00 to 14:00, there is an accessible bus service for people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users.
From Friday to Sunday, starting at 19:30, the amusement and games area is open for all ages.
21 August. Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons concert
The Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja will host a performance by the Salzillo string quartet as part of the Candlelight concert series.
The programme will include instrumental versions of hits by Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.
Start time: 19:00. Tickets: from 15 euros.
21 August. Lorna concert
Lorna will perform at the Rabasa fairground in Alicante. The Panamanian singer became known worldwide for her contribution to the rise of commercial reggaeton.
She became one of the most prominent representatives of the genre during the early years of its global expansion. Her style combines urban beats and memorable choruses that audiences still remember.
Spectators will be able to enjoy live performances of her best-known hits during an evening designed to revive the spirit of 2000s reggaeton and the energy of that golden era.
Start time: 19:30. Tickets: from 32 euros.
23 August. Play Lo que callamos a los 30
The Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja will present the play Lo que callamos a los 30 – What We Keep Silent About at 30.
It tells the story of three friends – Greta, Magda and Loli – who are already over fifty and feel invisible to the world around them. That is why, on the 15th of every month, they decide to meet in one of their attics, away from children and husbands, to talk about everything they have always kept silent because of social conventions.
Under the cover of a fictional book club, the three friends give free rein to their sharp tongues and talk safely about how they feel in everyday life.
The secrecy of these meetings is threatened by the arrival that evening of Kay, Magda’s daughter, who would not approve of what the women are doing. The tangled situations that arise as they try to hide the truth lead to the most absurd inventions by the friends as they try to get rid of the young woman.
Start time: 21:00. Tickets: from 22 euros.
