Fifty-two restaurants are taking part in the fourth “Alicante Ciudad del Arroz” (“Alicante, City of Rice”) festival, offering special menus from €25. Until 15 November, restaurants throughout the city will showcase the region’s signature rice dishes, serving both traditional recipes and inventive interpretations.

29 October – 1 November. “El oro y el universo. Saberes indígenas de Colombia” exhibition

Until 2 May 2027, Alicante’s Archaeological Museum (MARQ) is hosting a major international exhibition, “El oro y el universo. Saberes indígenas de Colombia” (“Gold and the Universe: Indigenous Knowledge of Colombia”). Historic collaboration with the Gold Museum in Bogotá and the University of Cambridge has brought to Spain an extraordinary collection of almost 300 sacred objects, masks and breastplates that challenge conventional ideas about the legend of El Dorado.

The exhibition brings together 291 archaeological artefacts specially selected for the occasion, including around 157 gold objects, as well as works by contemporary Indigenous communities. Many pieces are on display in Spain for the first time. Among the highlights are hybrid beings, such as the famous “bat people” and “flying shamans”. These artefacts are remarkable not only for their designs and craftsmanship but also for the fundamental role they played in maintaining the balance of the world.

Ceramics and stone objects are equally significant, including representations of numerous plants and animals, some of which are now threatened by the destruction of their ecosystems.

Opening hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10:00 am–7:00 pm; Sundays and public holidays 10:00 am–2:00 pm. For current admission prices and hours, see the MARQ website.

29–31 October. Trip to Tabarca Island

Boats from Torrevieja, Santa Pola and Alicante take visitors to Tabarca, the largest and only inhabited island in the Valencian Community. Visitors can admire underwater scenery, discover rich marine biodiversity, enjoy meals in local restaurants and explore historic monuments.

The boat from Torrevieja holds 250 passengers and welcomes people with reduced mobility and pets; visitors can also bring food and drinks. Departures from Torrevieja run according to a seasonal timetable. For this period, sailings are scheduled on 29 and 31 October. Services from Santa Pola and Alicante have separate timetables.

Departure from Torrevieja: 10:45 am; return from the island: 5:30 pm. Return tickets: adults €29, children aged 3–10 €19, under-3s free. Check availability and the latest timetable on the operator’s website; services may be cancelled due to weather.

Every Friday, Parque Antonio Soria hosts Torrevieja’s street market, one of the largest small-business trading centres in the Vega Baja area. Covering some 82,000 m², the market can accommodate up to 700 stalls selling food, clothing, shoes, accessories and other goods, often at attractive prices compared with major supermarket chains.

Facilities include free parking, public toilets and a taxi rank. An accessible bus service runs every 20 minutes from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Market hours: 8:00 am–2:00 pm. From Friday to Sunday, an amusement park with rides and games for all ages opens here from 7:30 pm.

Audiences can expect extreme stunts, including a “globe of death” with seven motorcycles racing simultaneously.

Unlike earlier shows centred on traditional horror and jump scares, this production uses suspense and a story with social and technological undertones: a prison controlled by artificial intelligence.

Showtimes: 29 October at 8:00 pm; 30 October at 8:45 pm; 31 October at 6:00 pm and 8:45 pm; 1 November at 5:00 pm and 7:45 pm. Tickets from €30. Details and bookings on the circus website.

31 October. Children’s play “Halloween, Room on the Broom”

Starts at noon. Tickets: €5.

31 October. Play “Crónica del rey pasmado”

In the evening, the Teatro Principal presents “Crónica del rey pasmado” (“Chronicle of the Astonished King”). In the intrigue-filled Madrid of the Baroque era, a young monarch is overwhelmed by the mystery of the female body. His wish to see the queen naked causes an uproar at court, where bishops, favourites and servants struggle between sin and pleasure, reason and faith.

With biting humour and dazzling irony, this stage adaptation revives one of the sharpest satires by Torrente Ballester – a comedy about power, hypocrisy and the freedom to feel.

Starts at 7:00 pm. Tickets: €12, €18 and €25.

31 October. Candlelight: Clásicos de Halloween

As part of the Candlelight concert series, Alicante’s Archaeological Museum (MARQ) hosts “Candlelight: Clásicos de Halloween”. The Adre Quartet will perform music from horror films alongside internationally renowned hits and classical pieces.

31 October. Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra concert

The Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra opens its first chamber-music series at the International Auditorium with one of the greatest masterpieces in music history: Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental “Goldberg Variations”.

Originally written for harpsichord, this Baroque work takes on a new dimension of harmony and polyphonic dialogue in a celebrated arrangement for string trio (violin, viola and cello). It will be performed by violinist Nikolai Grabovsky, violist Paloma Valero Campello and cellist Alberto Gómez Martínez.

Starts at 7:00 pm. Tickets from €18.75. Details on Cultura Torrevieja.

1 November. Children’s play “The Story of a Miracle”

The experimental theatre El Faro presents “The Story of a Miracle” by the Teatroom theatre studio. Somewhere between worlds lies the magical land of Merezhina, once filled with colour, music and children’s laughter. Now darkness has descended: an evil spider has woven its black web and enslaved the inhabitants. They have lost their voices, feelings and hopes, becoming emotionless servants of its will.

But one day a child arrives from another world – courageous, sincere and full of light. The child must face fears, find friends and remind the people of Merezhina what it means to feel, dream and be free.

Starts at 5:00 pm. Tickets: €10 and €15. Performed in Russian.
