Alicante has prepared a festive programme for Valencian Community Day, celebrated on October 9. This year, the events bring together traditional dances, music and fireworks. The municipal programme is scheduled for October 8 and 9, while the Valencian regional government has organised a fireworks display in Alicante harbour at midnight between Thursday and Friday.

During the events, Alicante’s Town Hall Square will become a fully pedestrianised area, so access for city buses and taxis will be restricted.

Programme for October 8

On Thursday, October 8, at 13:00, a reading of Tirant lo Blanc will take place at the Municipal Arts Centre, with the participation of representatives of the City Council, educational institutions and the University of Alicante.

From 18:30 to 20:00, Town Hall Square will host an open workshop in traditional Alicante dances – danses d’Alacant. It will be led by members of the Cresol and Postiguet groups, accompanied by dolçaina and tabalet musicians from the Federació de Folklore d’Alacant.

At midnight, a festive fireworks display will take place in Alicante harbour in honour of Valencian Community Day.

Programme for October 9

On Friday, October 9, at 11:00, traditional folk dancing (dansà) open to everyone is scheduled. The procession will feature the Cresol and Postiguet groups, Colla de Nanos i Gegants d’Alacant and musicians from the Federació de Folklore d’Alacant. The route begins on the Explanada promenade near Plaza del Mar and ends by the Concha de la Explanada bandstand.

At 12:00, a festive concert by the Alicante Municipal Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pedro Lara Navarrete, is scheduled in Town Hall Square. Admission is free.

Festivities Councillor Cristina Cutanda encouraged Alicante residents to take part in the events organised by the city and thanked the Valencian regional government for holding the festive fireworks display.
