El Centro Universitario Nebrija in Avilés has become the first private university in Asturias to receive final approval to begin academic activities in the 2026–27 academic year. Classes at the institution will officially begin on September 15, 2026.
According to the university’s management, the first intake for the Nursing degree will consist of 60 students. They will be joined by around 30 international students enrolled in Spanish-language programmes already offered by the Nebrija Spanish Language Institute in Avilés.
The Nebrija University Centre in Avilés will operate in several historic buildings located in the very centre of the city, including the Palacio de Maqua and Palacio de Camposagrado.
The university also has a building at Plaza de Domingo Álvarez Acebal and has signed a number of agreements with public and private institutions for practical training. Among them are the hospitals of Jarrio, Fundación Avilés and Gijón, the Emby clinic, as well as medical centres in Luarca, Navia and Vegadeo.
As part of its development plan, Nebrija University also plans to open a student residence starting from the 2027–2028 academic year in order to expand the range of services available to Spanish and international students. The university is committed to a model based on close contact and an individual approach, under the guidance of practising professionals connected with the clinical and social realities of the region – all in ultra-modern facilities designed to enable students to reach their full potential from the very first day.
