Here is what interesting events await residents and visitors of Torrevieja, as well as nearby towns in Alicante province, at the end of this week.

APRIL 9. Formula V Concert

The Main Theatre of Alicante will host a concert by the iconic Spanish band Formula V, the group that created the greatest number of hit songs in the country. Led by Paco Pastor, the founder, leader, and soul of the band, they will perform songs that have remained relevant for many years, untouched by changing trends, and have become part of the historical memory of pop music in Spanish-speaking countries. “Cuéntame”, “Eva María”, “Vacaciones de verano”, “La Fiesta de Blas”, “Tengo tu amor”, “Cenicienta”, “Ahora sé que me quieres”, and “Loco casi loco” are just some of the songs included in this unique and unrepeatable show.

APRIL 9–12. Exhibition of Works by Picasso, Warhol, Murakami, and Other Great Artists

Until May 18, the Sea Museum of Santa Pola is hosting an exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami, Marc Chagall, and other great Spanish and international artists from the Vicente Aguilera Cerni Museum of Contemporary Art in Vilafamés (MACVAC), as well as from the collection of Mariano Poyatos and Filomena De Lorenzo (Espai Nivi gallery). Many of the works on display are previously unpublished paintings and recent additions to the MACVAC collection and the Espai Nivi collection, making this project a unique opportunity to discover them. The two collections, built around four themes – “The Body”, “Rituals”, “Landscapes of the Soul”, and “Transcendence” – invite visitors on a journey leading from the most physical and biographical experience to the realms of abstraction and symbol. As the curators of the exhibition note, “it does not propose a closed discourse, but rather represents a process of search, an inward journey in which each work becomes a threshold and each room a dwelling where the visitor inhabits at their own pace”.

Maria Rainer is a young novice at Nonnberg Abbey whose free spirit and passion for music clash with the strict rules of the religious order. Her constant escapes to the nearby mountains leave the other nuns puzzled, making them wonder whether Maria is truly destined to become one of them.

To help her find her path, the Mother Abbess decides to send Maria to work as governess to the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp, a widowed former officer of the Austro-Hungarian Navy. Upon arriving at the house, Maria discovers that the captain has become withdrawn after his wife’s death, while the children are being raised under strict discipline that leaves no room for fun. However, thanks to her infectious joy and passion for music, Maria not only wins the hearts of the children, filling the house with laughter, songs, and love, but also begins to awaken feelings for the captain that make her doubt her future in the abbey…

This new production of “The Sound of Music” by Theatre Properties impresses not only with its moving story and the unforgettable music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, but also with majestic sets that transport the audience to 1930s Austria. Each set is carefully designed to immerse the viewer in a classical atmosphere – from the convent to the von Trapp villa and the majestic Alps.
