The Costa Blanca is the European region with the most awards in 2021, with a total of 153 blue flags flying on the beaches and coves of the Valencian Community.

Particularly noteworthy is the province of Alicante, where its beaches and coves continue to hold a greater number of these badges, 89. Enjoying a refreshing swim or sunbathing are just a few reasons to visit the coves and beaches of Vega Baja.

Cala Mosca (Orihuela)

It is one of the most interesting coves due to its protected natural elements, a small sandy area bordered by two rocky areas that give it the appearance of a bay. In addition, this area has in its habitat two species of flora and fauna that are threatened and protected: a small bush, the Jarilla with the cat’s head, and Tudorella mauretánica, a strange snail in danger of extinction.

From Cala Mosca, following the coastline, we enter the undeveloped area to reach, in just 200 meters, the Cala de Cabo Peñas (also known as Cala Mosca II). In fact, in 2021 Cala Cabo Peñas has been enabled as a dog beach.

The services that Cala Mosca has are:

  • Parking
  • Access for handicapped
  • Red cross
  • Rescue surveillance
  • FootbathBlue flag

Cala Capitan (Orihuela)

This cove is located in the northern part of Cabo Roig. It is a cove of fine sand with a central islet known as Isla Carmen that divides its bathing areas into two. It is characterized by its asymmetry since, of its 187 meters long, barely half can be seen from the main access, which is why it looks like a beach that is wider than it is long.

This beach is attractive to all those who practice water sports such as diving or snorkeling. In addition, the 11 blue flags that the Orihuela coastline has have been key to achieving the distinction for the Cabo Roig area.

The services available are:

  • Parking
  • Access for handicapped
  • Children’s recreational área
  • Red cross
  • Rescue surveillance
  • Hammocks/Umbrellas
  • Blue flag

Cala Piteras (Torrevieja)

It is located at the southern end of the Torrevieja coast. It is a small semi-urban cove that has about 1,860 m² of sand. To the north of it is Cala Ferris and to the south Playa Punta Prima.

Its clean waters, the vegetation that surrounds it and the important posidonia meadows that are found in it, make it a paradise in the Vega Baja for snorkeling. The occupancy level is medium here, although in the summer season the number of visitors tends to increase quite a bit.

The services available are:

  • Parking
  • Rescue surveillance
  • Red cross
  • Adapted ramp
  • Beach bar
  • Clean point and recycling bins
  • Footbath
  • Blue flag

Conde Beach (Pilar de la Horadada)

This urban beach has golden sand and is located at the foot of the Pilar de la Horadada Watchtower. This monument, built in the 16th century, marked the traditional southern limit of the Kingdom of Valencia. Now, it provides a shade that calms the heat of all the visitors who decide to come to this beautiful beach.

The services available are:

  • Parking
  • Rescue surveillance
  • Red cross
  • Bathrooms/WC
  • Taxi/Bus stop
  • Beach bar
  • Footbath
  • Blue flag

Campo Beach (Guardamar del Segura)

This beach is more than a kilometer long and 70 meters wide, it is located between Playa de la Roqueta and Playa de les Ortigues in the municipality of Orihuela.

The beach has fine sand and a golden color. This beach surrounded by pine forests is characteristic for its areas of fixed dunes thanks to the Mediterranean vegetation. Its natural state provides tranquility and thus distances any type of building near this wonderful sandbank.
