The residential project of a mezzanine, ground floor and five floors promoted by Cooperativa Valenciana Ofinave at number 26 of La Rambla in Alicante has finally cleared the way for its conversion into tourist apartments. The Concejalía de Urbanismo (Department of Housing and Urban Development) has recently authorised the modification of its licence so that the 23 apartments in the building can be transformed into accommodation for high-end clients.

The adaptation of the permit comes at the final stage of the building’s construction, after more than 13 years of preliminary work, just at the time when an agreement has also been reached on its operation. Cooperativa Valenciana Ofinave has reached an agreement with the company specialising in the management of tourist apartments MyApartments to take over the reins of marketing them as accommodation.

The company thus adds another block to its portfolio of tourist apartments in the city’s Traditional Centre and Old Town, including two buildings located in Calle Bailén, another in Calle San Francisco, and three more in Calle Villavieja, Calle del Cid and Calle San Nicolás, just behind the co-cathedral.

Initially, the plan is that the new apartments in La Rambla, built on the site of the old building where the Havana pub was located, will be able to welcome the first guests within two months, as soon as the internal fittings have been completed. It was originally scheduled to open at the end of 2020, but the necessary adjustments to the electricity connection and water supply have delayed the construction work until now.

However, this delay has made it possible to find a tenant for the ground floor of the building. The 200 square metres of the establishment will house a restaurant of the Five Guys hamburger chain, known for using fresh ingredients, without resorting to freezing. The one in La Rambla will also become the franchise’s first restaurant in the province of Alicante and the second in the Comunitat, after the one already operating in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Valencia.

Likewise, the Cooperativa Valenciana Ofinave and MyApartments are also considering converting the 300 square metre ground floor of the building into a space fitted out as a coworking centre associated with the tourist apartments, but which would also allow access to other non-guest users.
