The large coastal and beach urban centers are usually the main destinations for home searches among foreigners, but today we are going to stop at the 22 towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants in which the weight of interest in buying a house is more higher from abroad than within Spain.

According to the study carried out by Idealista, the town in which the weight of foreign interest in buying a house is greater in relation to that of the Spaniards themselves is Fuente Obejuna (Córdoba), where 77% of the visits received in recent months came from abroad.

The provinces with the greatest weight in home purchases by foreigners during the past quarter were Alicante (40.7%), the Balearic Islands (35.4%), Malaga (33.7%), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (32 .1%) and Girona (27.9%). According to the Registrars, foreigners who decide to start their search for their home in Spain through Idealista, the real estate marketplace in southern Europe, also show great interest in the small towns in these provinces.

To carry out this study, Idealista has measured the origin of the visits received by the homes for sale on its portal in municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants, during the last three months.

Two municipalities of Salamanca, Garcirrey and El Milano complete the podium, with 69% and 66% of the visits they received from international sources. The next town on the list is Cala Ratjada, on the island of Mallorca, with 63% of searches from abroad, followed by Laroya (Almería) with 61%, Valle Gran Rey (on the island of La Gomera) with the 57% and Cómpeta (Málaga) also with 57%.

Recently we highlighted the towns that receive the most searches from abroad to buy a house. One of them was Ciudad Quesada, in Alicante, and it now reappears among those that show greater interest for foreigners than among nationals.

This town in Alicante concentrated 55% of international visits, while Canillas de Albaida and Sayalonga (both in Malaga) had 54%. 53% of foreign visits were to the towns of Benitachell (Alicante), Cala Millor (Mallorca), Arboleas (Almería) and Cala Bona (Mallorca).

They are followed, with 52% of searches, by Sa Coma (Mallorca) and the Gomeran town of Alajero (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), while they have 51% in Albanchez (Almería), Deya (Mallorca), Cala D’ Or (Majorca) and Lubrín (Almería). Lastly, with the same interest for foreigners and nationals are the towns of Jete (Granada) and Portbou (Girona).

The towns that most attract foreigners to buy a house

According to the latest report on used housing prices from Idealista, if we look at the prices asked for houses for sale in these towns with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, they clearly lead the towns in the Balearic Islands, where prices such as de Deya (€5,889/m²) or Cala d’Or (€3,926/m²).

Below €3,000/m² are the towns of Benitachell or Ciudad Quesada, both in the province of Alicante, with €2,944/m² and €2,303/m², respectively. Also in this price range between €2,000-3,000/m² are the Majorcan towns of Sa Coma (€2,676/m²) or Cala Millor (€2,276/m²).

On the contrary, the most affordable prices among these towns are concentrated in Fuente Obejuna, in Córdoba, with just €359/m². These towns with the lowest prices have few inhabitants and little supply in the market, so their prices are arithmetic means without statistical treatment, and the Idealista price report does not appear.
