Last week, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs abolished certain requirements for its citizens who have visited the Valencian community and the Canary Islands. Now, they don’t have to take a coronavirus test or be quarantined upon their return. This is evidenced by a map posted on the website of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where different zones are painted in certain colors depending on the epidemiological situation.

The provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon, as well as all the Islands of the Canary archipelago, are colored orange. This is the first relaxation of health security measures for almost all provinces of Spain (with the exception of Tenerife), introduced by Belgium in August this year – until now they have been painted red.

Starting on Wednesday, 30 September 2020, the Valencian community and the Canary Islands are no longer areas that are not recommended for travel for Belgians. For those of them who returned to Belgium from these regions, it is no longer obligatory to take the test and be under quarantine.

However, restrictions remain in place for the rest of Spain: although there is no travel ban, the Belgian «government strictly does not recommend» traveling to these regions, and if the trip eventually took place, the coronavirus test and quarantine observing are required upon return to Belgium.
