Spain’s Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) published statistical data on taxpayers who paid personal income tax (IRPF) for 2023. Thanks to this information, it is possible to determine which municipalities in Spain have the highest and the lowest income levels, and to highlight the richest and the poorest towns in the country.

The Richest Towns in Spain

If we look at the nationwide picture, the richest towns are located in the Community of Madrid and the province of Barcelona. First place goes to the Madrid suburb of Pozuelo de Alarcón, with an average annual income of 88 011 euros per capita. It is followed by Boadilla del Monte (in the same region) – 70 869 euros.

Aigües – the Richest Town in the Valencian Community

Eighth place in this ranking is held by the small village of Aigües, located in Alicante province. This municipality, with a population of fewer than 1,200 people, has an average income of 60 883 euros per person, whereas a year earlier it ranked only 877th with an income of 27 247 euros. Aigües is the richest town in the Valencian Community; it is followed by Rocafort (55 901), Corbera (52 160), Godella (45 318) and Bétera (43 485).
