Consulting firm Reputation Lab has compiled a ranking of countries with the best international reputation based on the “RepCore Nations 2025” study conducted among citizens of the wealthiest countries (G7). Spain has once again made it into the top 20, while the biggest drop since 2024 was recorded by the United States, which fell 18 positions to 48th place. Threats of introducing tariffs and a shift in attitudes toward NATO are likely reasons for this decline and may contribute to skepticism toward U.S. policy and its international commitments.
How the ranking was compiled
Citizens of the G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States) were asked to evaluate other countries based on factors such as trust, admiration, respect and overall image.
“Countries with a stronger reputation can attract more foreign investment, tourists, or respect in international organizations,” the report notes.
Ranking leaders
Switzerland retained first place in the ranking, earning respect for its neutrality, governance system and quality of life. Canada took second place, moving up two positions from 2024 thanks to its long-standing reputation for inclusiveness and diplomacy.
The next four positions were taken by Northern European countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. These countries stand out for stability, transparency and achievements in environmental protection.
