The national tourism business association, Exceltur, has carried out a study on the competitiveness of 15 municipalities considered sun and beach destinations, including Benidorm. According to the parameters included in the ‘SolyTur’ report, on a global level, the capital of the Costa Blanca is considered the third most competent, behind Adeje and Calvià. And above Marbella, Santa Eulària des Riu, San José, Salou, Pájara, Chiclana de la Frontera, Calella, Yaiza, Torremolinos, Roquetas de Mar, Peñíscola and Gandía.

To establish this ranking, ordered from most to least competitive, its position in the 58 indicators that make up this first edition of SolyTur, which takes into account the figures collected during 2019, has been taken into account. It also considers the value of the global indicator of each destination, whose average for all 15 destinations is 100, and its position with respect to the rest, with Benidorm’s being 107.31 points, while the other two destinations of the Valencian Community that close the list reach 88.90 points in Peñíscola and 87.23 points in Gandía, which is the worst-ranked of all the municipalities studied.
Among the strengths that stand out for Benidorm over the rest of its competitors is its commitment to public-private management with the marketing and promotion of tourism in the city.

It should be borne in mind that Benidorm has Visit Benidorm, which was born as a foundation whose first years have had a greater weight of public collaboration; however, in recent years, private contributions have exceeded those of the administrations. Likewise, the entity has taken the reins of promoting the city in all markets.

According to the study, “this reality has allowed Benidorm to lead all SolyTur indicators related to marketing strategy (market intelligence, positioning of the municipal tourism website or recognition in social networks and multimedia media). They also mention positively that it is one of the six cities where the Mayor Toni Pérez is in charge of the Concejalía de Turismo (Department of Tourism).

In addition, Benidorm stands out in the indicators of less polluting mobility policies. In this way, they mention that it is the only one with a tourist mobility plan. “As a result, it leads the ranking in the provision of bicycle lanes or the promotion of electric mobility, along with Calviá,” the study says.
