Torrevieja’s City Council has presented the first sketches of a major public space on Alto de la Casilla – the future “green lung” of the city. The 27,000 m² site will be transformed into a contemporary leisure area with a mirador (viewpoint), a large children’s park, recreation areas and a new visitor magnet close to the center.

The concept foresees eight themed zones with zip-lines, slides and play areas – with a strong focus on family time and residents’ everyday walks. Officials stress that this is not just a viewpoint, but the largest children’s park the city currently lacks.

The municipality estimates a timeline of roughly two years. Works are expected to cover the final stretch of the current legislature and continue into the next. Earlier, in February 2023, the city announced plans to tender the preliminary design.

Funding is planned with the participation of the La Olla sector developer, who will undertake part of the works, while the Ayuntamiento will complement the infrastructure with the park and related elements. The initiative brings back to life a site where a viewpoint project launched in 2004 remained unfinished for over two decades, sparking legal and financial disputes.
