The project of the University of Alicante (UA) “Sendero de Gran Recorrido de la Montaña de Alicante” has registered more than 600 kilometres of roads, paths and peaks in the mountains of Alicante. In this way, the UA returns to society what it invests in higher education and makes Alicante the pioneer Spanish province in digitizing its mountain routes.

A Gran Recorrido (GR) trail is an approved trail of more than 50 kilometres, which usually reaches 100 kilometres. The GR trails, marked in red and white, guarantee signposting, safety, passability, information and maintenance of their paths.

Rafael Muñoz, Vice President of Research and Knowledge Transfer, commented that this was a project born with the aim of raising awareness, sensitizing and educating. The fact is that mountains are fragile spaces that can withstand great pressure and need a cultural change, a renewed human attitude that, beyond protection, will only be viable with education.
